Monsoon system question

Both of my Monsoon subs, the ones next to the rear seats in the middle blew out. I can't seem to find any used ones to replace them, and GM wants like $80 per speaker, ya right. But without them, of course, my stereo has almost NO bass.

Is there any reason why purchasing some regular 6 1/2 speakers to replace them wouldn't work? I dunno squat about stereos, and I just want to make sure they the amp doesn't put out a signal or something that would be bad for regular speakers. I don't plan on getting a real sub in my car, but I want something to replace those two speakers so I can get some bass back.

Those, for example. If I buy those, will they fit and get my bass back, if I hook them up next to the rear seats? Also, will the tweeter on the speakers be useless, since I assume the Monsoon amp only sends low frequencies to those speakers?

EDIT:

Actually, would something like this be better to replace those speakers with?

or

...since they don't have a tweeter?

Re: Monsoon system question

I don't know what the ohm rating is, but normal speakers are 4 and the monsoons aren't. Check the back of the speaker for the ohm symbol, kinda looks like a set of headphones.

Hmm, I was thinking the Monsoon's were 2ohm, but looking at the back of the blown speakers, they're 4ohm.

Re: Monsoon system question

Coaxials are worthless as midbass drivers. Get either Digital Audio Mid-Bass drivers, or JL Audio drivers http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_s...p?series_id=23 But, my advice, monsoon system is not worth putting any $$$ in it; do yourself a favor, when you have a chance, rip it off, trust me.

Re: Monsoon system question

So what can one do exactly, since this happened to me as well. I don't want to spend big bucks now on a new system but want my back speakers back.. I know nothing about stereos and speakers so what would work exactly?

Any 6.5" midbass driver you can find will work great. (except Pyramids lol)

So would any of those work? Sorry for the ignorance on the topic, I see that I want a 6 1/2 inch, but am getting so confused. The info for my car too says that it will only produce bass, and I have to splice the wires? I'd prefer to save money and get slighlty better than stock speakers.. so if any of those would do the trick someone please help... thanks!

Re: Monsoon system question

They won't work well as midbass drivers, and can be quickly damaged by low frequencies. Midbass driver is very different from full range speaker.
There is a plenty of information here:
