monsoon system sub replacement?

I have a couple of blown speakers in my 96 TA with monsoon 10 speaker surround. I want to replace these woofers, but have a question. Are there crossovers built into them or something? If I replace them with an aftermarket woofer I dont want any high sounds in them, will I need to buy a crossover too? What ohm and watts do I need? Any suggestions on what ones to get (I am on a very tight budget)? I want to stick with getting components not just 6.5" speakers. Let me know, thanks.

If your speaking of the front door speakers then yes they have crossovers already. Also they are 4 ohms. If your looking for a set to match your car go to crutchfield.com they'll tell you what sets fit your car.

The only crossover I've ever seen are small capacitors used on the tweeters. I don't know if the Monsoon amp uses an internal electronic crossover on the woofers or not. Check the impedance of your door woofers. They're supposed to be 2ohms although some people claim to have 4ohm woofers in their doors. The rear seat subs in Firebirds have dual 4ohm voice coils that are run in parallel for a 2ohm load.

whoa, i thought the crossover was attached to the speaker, and when you replace it (if you're keeping thestock setup)you just snip the old speaker off from the crossover and you reattach the new one to the crossover again (front speaker only) this is what i always thought since i read it somewhere and i am putting new ones in this weekend, so i will tell ya when i get there

There is no passive crossover in the Monsoon system. The HU powers the tweeters which have a small capacitor connected to them for a hi-pass filter. The woofers are powered by the Monsoon amp. I don't know if the woofers are run full-range or are low passed by the Monsoon amp. An easy way to tell would be to disconnect the tweeter and play a 5kHz test tone or so to see if it can be heard thru the woofer or not.

well i just got done installing some kicker r6c's in the front doors and i saw that there is this circuit board thing attached to the stock speaker mounting plate... i am assuming this is some sort of crossover, i just cut the wires attached to it and reattached to the new speaker. works fine.

You must be referring to a BOSE system. There weren't any Monsoons in '94.
