monsoon question

My wife and I recently bought a 99 camaro v-6 5spd with t tops and the monsoon system. My question is just before installing my JVC head unit the factory amp quit working, and after installing the head unit it worked for a small while, then quit again. A friend of mine also has a 99 with the monsoon system and an Alpine head unit and has had the same problem. If anyone could give me some help as to what the problem might be and how to fix it. Also, I have read (and heard from other owners) that the monsoon system has 8 speakers, why can I only find 6? Any help greatly appreciated!!

The HU sends its signal to the Monsoon amp and the amp sends it to the speakers. If you don't bypass the Monsoon amp and wire the speakers directly to the new HU, then you're not fixing anything by replacing the HU if the problem is in the Monsoon amp.

you would have to do some testing, make sure its getting power to the amp and that the remote turn-on is ok, make sure the grounds ok at the amp in the right rear panel in the hatch
