Monsoon or not?

Just wondering if anyone can tell me what my system would be missing from being a Monsoon? According to the option codes on my door jamb sticker, I have the monsoon system (assuming they have it written up correctly in the Next Generation catalog). There is supposed to be an amp in the compartment with the spare tire correct? There are wires running back there (Power, speaker I think, and RCA). There is some little box in there that has "Periphoral" as the apparent brand and says "interface components" below that. My head unit does NOT say Monsoon on it, but I read/heard somewhere that not all of them do. I do have 10 speakers in all.

Talking How to ID

The head unit on a Monsoon has the Monsoon logo on it, which says "Monsoon." If you don't have this, you don't have a Monsoon.

Not necessarily so. There are those that have Monsoons that don't say so on the face of the HU.

Wow, I stand corrected. I assumed that since mine and the ones on the website have it, that they all had it.

Since you seem to know more about it than I do, any info on where I can find aftermarket accessories for the Monsoon? I miss my MP3's, but really don't want to replace the sound system.

I'm not aware of any. Then again I'm not a big fan of MP3's so I've never really looked into it before.

Ahh. What I like to do on long car rides is to burn lectures to MP3 cds. Considering getting XM radio so I can listen to the news channels... I know, a boring thing to do in a fun car, but it's my thing.

Actual music I generally keep in music CDs in the car. MP3 is a lossy format, so there is generally some degrade in quality with that.

The only REAL advantage that the MP3s have is that if it's music that I'm not going all audiophile over, then I can stick 10 or more music CDs onto 1 CD, so I have more songs to click through without having to change disks and drive at the same time.

Wasn't as big a problem when I would use my CD visor, but now I'm worried about CD's blowing out through the T-Tops. I could just copy all of my CDs to CD-R's, but I haven't gone that route... yet.

the code is on the sticker on my door, but there's no amp, just wiring. I wonder how to tell if this was factory wiring, and if so, what can I use to "re-complete" the system?
