Exclamation monsoon help

Okie I dunno if im correct or not but... the stock monsoon system; all speakers are powered by a seperate amp except the front tweeters correct? The front tweeters are powered by the HU. Or are all The tweeters powered By the HU and all the drivers sepereate amp?

This is where my problem comes in, I trying to install seperates, up front but come into a problem: If i connect the front 6.5" with the wiring from the factory 6.5" they bearly play, yet the tweeters play loud as hell, (connected to the factory plug for the factory tweeter)
And out back i had the same problem installing some 4x6's i installed them with the wiring for the driver: barely anthing, install them with the tweeter plug, they play loud and clear.

Do I have to install all speakers using the tweeter wiring? and forget about the driver wires? does an after market HU only power the tweeter circuits?

The POS Monsoon stereo has a multi channel amp that powers all of the woofers in the car. The HU powers all the tweeters. The tweeters are connected in parallel with the amplifier since the POS Monsoon amp uses speaker level inputs rather than line level inputs. The reason your speakers won't play very loud is because the stock woofers are 2ohms and you have replaced them with 4ohm speakers. Since the impedance is now double because of the new speakers you are only getting about half as much power sent to them as you were with the factory woofers. When it comes to upgrading the POS Monsoon system, at the very least you need to replace all the speakers and amp or don't even bother.

Thumbs up

wow... that's alot of p-o-s's! how about if i disconnect the factory amp? can i connect all the speakers to their corresponding factory wiring, and be on my way? i already have new speakers for all factory locations, and my HU has a built in amp. I don't need a aftermarket amp to power my speakers do I? Also the factory amp is located in the right rear passanger trim right? I thought to have seen it there when i ran the wiring for my HU. THANKS

I would help you, but I refuse to help somebody who risks their life by drinking heavily and driving...... let's just hope you don't take anyone with you. You only get one life.

lol, man i don't drink and drive, like i said if i am physically unable i just pull over throw the keys in the trunk, and pass out in the back seats, so police can't really say anything. That's only happened to me twice, well 3 times but the last time the passanger drove me home.

come on man we are firebird dudes! hell a bird out

actually ls1rulez gave me pretty good info, thanks alot man, you obviously, know your shyt.

ohh one thing that has me confused, u say all the drivers are 2ohm yet on the back of every driver i pulled, it says 4 ohms. could it be cuz my bird is a 98?or are all the drivers dvc's? I thought 2 ohm speakers didn't exist anymore

Your woofers say 4ohms on them? Thats odd. I know the tweeters and the 4" mids in the hatch are 4ohms but the Monsoon woofers should be 2ohms. Firebirds however have dual 4ohm VC's for the factory subs where Camaros have single 2ohm VC subs. Maybe they were different in '98. That would be news to me.

hey ls1rulez check it out: The small 4" in the rear with their tweeters say 4 ohm on them. the front 6.5" and their tweeters also say 4ohms on them, now if you are talking about the speakers that go in the passanger compartment, which seem to also be 6"1/2 speakers... I wouldn't know my car didn't come with them, I would guess they are DVC's though because it's a 4 cable plug.

Check out what im doing I bought a kenwood amp 4 channel and im running the wiring from the input side, and then coresponding output sides to the respective speakers, but when i turn the volume up the tweeters only on the left side front and rear stated popping as if going with the bass. I must have crossed a speaker wire huh? would you happen to know what color corresponds to what? because the wires change color when they leave the amp out to the speakers.

Check this out. I have a 96 bird w/o monsoon and 2 of my stock speakers were 4 ohm and the other 2 were 10 ohm! Checked it with a dmm to be sure..... yep.

The dash speakers in my '85 Firebird SE and '91 Firebird were 10ohms and the rear 6x9's were 4ohms.

Maybe the Monsoon speakers were different in '98's. If they were though this is the first time I've ever heard about it.

I ran all new speaker wire in my car when I did my install. That way, I know that each and every speaker is run directly from my amps, and there is no question.

You should consider running new wiring. I know it's a pain in the ****, but it's worth it in the long run.
