Making Sub Boxes Hints Tips?? How To?

I was looking for ANY tips you guys could give me or hints on how to make a good sub box and how to build your own.

A website would also be helpful if any of you can find a good one i found 1 or 2 but they didn't have much on them.

Also how hard is it to get into this kind of thing? Are most boxes easy to make like hatch boxes and what not?
Thanks for any replys,

A box is really easy to build if you keep it square(I mean no funky anlges, you do not want a perfect cube). Basically, just cut pieces of wood to size and glue/screw them together then seal all the seams and put the sub in(pre-drill all screw holes). If you can't do that much, don't even try to build your own box. Be sure to use 3/4" MDF, particle board looks similar and is cheaper but do not use it. My friend put 2 brahmas in a PB sealed box and it actually EXPLODED! Besides it's harder to work with. As far as size, I would stick as close to the man. recomendations for your sub as possible. The airspace inside the box is critical to the way it will perform. Some say the box is as important, or more important than the sub you put in it. Porting a box requires alot more calculations than just air volume, but it can make the sub perform better if done correctly. There are programs for calculating this that are free like WinISD, but they can be tricky to decipher. FBA is a great site full of info, but it's geared more towards high-end audio. However they will gladly help newbies, and the mods really know what they're talking about(DJ is THE man in f-body audio). Just realize that those guys are EXTREMELY prejudice on what sounds "good".

basic tips I can think of right now:

1) Definitely go 3/4" MDF.
2) Screw the box together, don't use nails!
3) The back of the sub should not be closer than around 3" to the back of the box. Although the one in my Z28 is 1/2" from hitting the back of the box.
4) If you use heavy gauge wire going from your amp to the box, use heavy gauge wire inside your box.
5) Bracing is a must on larger boxes. I like to use triangular braces, as they are very easy to do.
6) Caulk the inside of the box very well to ensure there are no leaks. If you use silicone caulking you should air out the box very well for about a day before mounting the sub. It may eat away at the surround of the sub.
7) Using a gasket around the face of the sub will stop leaks well.
