Help me pick a sub amp
Help me pick a sub amp
Well I blew the Amp in my winter car yesturday (Profile 1200sx). I've had it for about 5yrs. Its running to 3 sealed 12" kicker comp vr's. After the smoke cleared I decided its time to get a new one.
The thing definately pounded hard the three 8ohm subs are wired to run at 2ohms. I dont want to go all out on this I'd like to keep the amp near the $250 range. here are some I found on E-bay around this price from $200-$280.
The last one was powerfull enough to go through a couple alternators and tear through my trunk latch ( it's in a jeep cherokee now).
Yaya I know profile is cheap but it worked and it put out over 1000 watts rms.
anyways hears a list of potentials tell me what you think.(so far I like the kenwood or kickerkx)
Profile CL1200 Clarus
Kenwood eXcelon KAC-X810D
VISONIK V900XD 1800W DIG Class X MONO
Visonik V2118 1200 Watt Mono
Kicker KX600.1
KICKER DX700
PrecisionPower PCX-1250
Phoenix Gold Octane-R 8.0:1

Dan, you should know rated power don't mean ****, you got an LS1 for Gods sake! Efficiency is key IMO............My vote is older PPI stuff........ART or PC class (not the bling bling model). Maybe an Orion HCCA amp also.......those have done well by me...............Maybe I will let you borrow one of my many excess amps, though if you just blew up an amp I may be a little hesitant

i like my Clarion dpx1000.1 --> its rated 1000watts RMS, but it will pound two solobaric L7 12s (my cousin is running two L7 12s off the new dpx1001.1, i have the 1000.1.. same amp, different case.)
they are on ebay for $260 buy it now

Skip the new PPI stuff.......I hear they are on the rebound, but haven't been quite the same since they were bought/sold a few times...........Where'd you get all this money? Don't you still owe me a B-day present also?
Cya tomorrow, happy bday dude (Friday)

Well I couldn't find that clarion amp on e-bay, although the specs look pretty decent on it.
I can't afford an Orion amp either right now.
Yeah Brian you should let me borrow an amp for a couple months until the T/A comes back out. Then I will hold off on the amp purchase till the fall and buy more important things like a stall converter

Here's a MTX amp that pushes 800 watts into 2 ohms and these amps push good! At least the 6500D amp that I bought from a friend does. The 6500D that I have is rated at 500 watts into 2 ohms but it will probably push more like 700 to 750 into 2 ohms.
This 800 watt MTX amp is a little above your price range but it would be a good amp if they are making them like the one I have:

There's always the JBL BP 1200.1 that pushes 1200 watts into 1 and 2 ohms, and 600 watts at 2 ohms. It's around $250 to $290 on the net depending on where you look but that amp will for surely push those Kickers nicely!
This one is on special right now in the price range that you are looking to stay in:

CBR Stereo is a good place to order from. I've ordered from them multiple times now and had good luck with them.
HTH!

lol actually...I have an Orion HCCA 250 G4 that I'm putting in my friend's S-10 today. It used to power my JL 18W3.
The specs are 200rms@4 ohms, 400rms@2 ohms, 800rms@ 1 ohm. The watts are definitely underrated, because the amp uses an unregulated power supply. The draw of the amp is around 60 amps, it's very efficient. The amp is in excellent condition with virtually no blemishes at all. I'm selling it to my friend as a combo with the 18W3 in box and installed for $550. If he backs out of this I'll sell it for $250 to you, but don't get your hopes up yet...
