Lights on Stock Stereo Burned out.....

A row of lights on my stock stereo is burned out.
GM tells me I have to take it out and they will send it away to replace the lamps inside - for $225!!
I don't want to try to just pop off the button's if I'll just wreck it............
What do you think?

I believe those bulbs are soldered onto the circuit board. I'm sure you could disassemble the head unit, unsolder the old bulbs, resolder new ones, and put it back together, but is it really worth it? If you have a spare HU for parts it's not a big deal. Just make sure the bulbs you put back in are good before you swap them out.

It still works - be kinda silly to spend a wad on something like that when performance mods are there........
I actually like the 97 (and up) stocker..........put's out some decent sound and it's got to be less likely of a target for thieves.
I've had too many past cars broken into just for the damn aftermarket stereo...........
Never had a stocker even attempted..............
