Lcd / Dvd

Hey,

What's the best way to hookup / mount a DVD / LCD combo? Where do people usually put the LCD screen? I see about five options:

- On the sun guard (a little too close to the face)
- On the dash itself (velcro perhaps)
- Drops down when you open the glove box (looks non-professional)
- Mounted in the center of the console
- On a swinging bar and tucked underneath the dash...so you can just bend / swing the bar out, and locate it where you wish.

As far as a DVD player goes, is there any way to mount that in the front console (I have the Monsoon stock stereo deck). If not, I guess the glove box might be a good place to store this?

Are the combo units any good? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks,
Kevin

I was thinking of buying one that included a stand then pop up the top of the dash and set the stand over where that vent is up there and gradually feed the stand threw the vent hole so you didn' break the bars across it. And have it right there. Viewable for both driver and passenger looks profesional and you can easily remove it when you leave the car to hide it. Also if you ever dont want it in anymore, then you wouldn't have any noticeable holes or anything. Hope this helps...

hey you can get a DVD player with a motorized in dash LCD screen. Also you could definatly put them in the sunvisor. I wouldnt really suggest the glove box idea. If you would like, take a look at my page. I added an in dash DVD player with the LCD screen, sunvisor LCD's and even a rear view mirror LCD. Later

Very very nice, I'm looking for something like that. Does your DVD player play normal audio CD's / mp3s / FM reception, etc? Remote turn-on for subs, etc?

Also, where do you get the piece to fit where the in-dash deck usually would (I'd assume that deck isn't as big as the stock monsoon face). Also, what brand are they, and how much do they run?

hey thanks for the comment. The DVD/LCD unit is a Kenwood Excelon KVT-911DVD unit. It comes with the built in 6.5inch motorized touch screen. Yes, the DVD player also plays regular audio cds, FM radio, CD-R's, CD-RW's, you can also hook up a satelite radio service. I dont think it plays MP3's, but im not 100%sure. As far as price goes, i know they are over 2000 retail but im sure you can find one cheaper then that. Also im not sure about the fitting of the Monsoon radio question, as my camaro didn't come with the Monsoon radio.

I couldn't see the page at the time I checked. It said "will be down until furture notice" or something. Anyhow, you mentioned you have LCD in the sunvisors.... did you do them yourself? What brand are they? Were they actually intended in go in a sunvisor? I mean, A LOT of them are too thick. so I've seen some ultra thin LCD's that come with a special mounting shroud for sunvisors. Tell me more about them!

hey firebirdude,

The LCD's that are in my visors are the 7inch raw LCD's by Icon-TV. These LCD's are basically raw units that you can basically put in a variety of places (anywhere u want). Go to the website, www.icon-tv.org. On the home page you should see the menu screen. Click on "Modules". From there you should see a variety of extremley thin LCD's made to fit in Visors and what not. These are arguably the thinnest available at the moment. Also your question about if i did the install myself...lol, no i wish, but if you can do the install yourself, thats great. You'll save yourself some money, believe me. Anyways, i hope my info was helpful, peace.
