Just bought a Z and the Monsoon doesn't work....

I just purchased a 2000 Z28 from this dude and the CD player doesn't work. The radio works fine, sounds great. All the speakers, no prob. But when I pop a CD into the player it doesn't sound like its spinning around at all and it sound like its trying to read it (I guess) making all sorts of clicking noises and what not. Finally it gives me te ERR code and fires it back out at me. I'm not pissed off yet, I'm still enjoying listening to the harmonic sounds of the LS1 but I love music and I burn alot of my own CDs which I def. wouldn't mind hearing as I smoke ricers on 436. Anyway, you guys got any idea what the problem is?

Sounds like yet another monsoon has taken a crap. This is pretty common with the indash Monsoon CD's. Basically, it's broke. Ever though of adding an aftermarket HU? Now would be the time to do so. Or you could always keep a look out for another on eBay, but it might just do the same.

I have thought about aftermarket head units in the past, but its just not feasible for me. I love music (I play drums) but I've never seen the reason to pay mucho $$ for some nice *** head unit. I dont know why. I had a 99 firebird with the monsoon and it worked flawlessly for 4 years. I guess this one is a bad seed. Mainly though, I can't get an aftermarket HU because I live in downtown Atlanta, i.e. bum central. 4 of my friends cars have been broken into solely to steal their aftermarket HU, one was even stolen, the HU removed, then the car was left on the side of the road. I just went down to the dealer though and (thank the lord) the car is still under warranty so they're gonna take care of it mon. morning.

Broken CD Player

I have a 2001 Z28 and the monsoon cd player did the exact same thing. I bought a second cd player on ebay and within 2 months it did it again. The radio works fine but it won't play cds just says ERR. Could the problem be electrical? Thanks, Lisa

Highly unlikely, it's probably some mechanical part of CD player, that failed. If you don't have anything reasonable against aftermarket HU, there is no sense in further investments in Monsoon players, as they are perfect examples of poor build and sound quality.
