Interior neons

Personally im not too big on the whole neon underbody stuff, but my girlfriends brothers car has small optix tubes under his dash and the look pretty cool, i was wondering if anyone has done this to a camaro, and if so how do they look, and where did you mount them?

thanks
Steve

Re: Interior neons

I remember my friend had some in his 3rd gen. He had blue ones that matched the car, looked pretty cool at night. For a show car kinda thing I'd do it.

Re: Interior neons

The way i see it, as long as you can't see the bulbs themselves, or any wires leading to them, they look just fine. Even undercar lighting can look good, as long as you pick a conservative color that you won't get tired of (green, pink, yellow, etc).

for the under-dash thing, they were probably mounted with screws to the panels under the dash. Or they used velcro...

Re: Interior neons

Yeah I've got interior blue neons, but also exterior neons. I wired the interior neons to the dome light. So that when the doors open the neons come on automatically. And so does the undercar lights too. And when I use my unlock button on the remote from a distance the lights come on. I mounted my interior neon tubes under the front dash and also they are under in the front in the back seats. You can barely notice them in the back. And in the front, you can't see the actual tubes at all. I've tried mounting tape but the tubes fall off after a while so I've gone to velcro- so far so good. I'm reluctant to use any screws.

Re: Interior neons

Forgot to mention that the dome light in the back, and the maplights in the front under the rearview mirror- all the bulbs can be switched over to blue bulbs too. But if you go with the blue bulbs, make sure that the bulb itself is clear and that the led light lights blue. If you get the cheap painted blue bulbs meaning the glass bulb itself is blue, the paint or coating on them scrapes off with the heat like within a week.

Re: Interior neons

that's pretty sweet how you got them to turn on with the dome lights. Do they also come on when you turn on your lights?

Re: Interior neons

I've got a 94 Z I put blue neon in the interior of it. I had a 70 camaro before my 94, put green in that it looked cool, got a lot of attention because it was an old car. I put it in the trunk also because i had a killer stereo and my trunk was all paneled, had a black light too. Uh inside of my 4th gen was simple took me about 5 hours. I went to Pep Boys, got their "Ultrabrite" stuff. Two 9" tubes in front to 6" under the back of the front seats. I wired it all to a switch mounted in the panel that holds the ashtray. Oh also a small 6" blacklight mounted right under the stock radio. Basically cut off the cigarette lighter crap that comes with the neon, make sure of which wire is positive or negative. I take a long time with mine because all of my wiring is super hidden, i did drill a 1/8" hole for the black light's wire to snake it through the dash. I just tapped a wire in my console for the ground, i swear by my little multimeter tester thing. The only way you can see the tubes in my car is if you get under the dash, rear neons are invisible unless you're under the seat. I did my friends 96 mustang, that took about 12 hours cuz we had about 10 different tubes in his car and we had to take out all his interior trim and back seat to hide the wiring. Freaking mustangs are so dumb...
