Installing XM Radio FM Modulator

Hey just wondering how you guys did this. Did you clip the alligator clip to a wire behind the radio, or did you use the accessory wire noted here? Also, did you just use the alligator clip or did you solder/twist/tape wires together? Thanks.

BTW pictures are greatly appreciated.

The XM kit I installed required me to pull out the antenea(sp?) plug from the back of the stereo then connect the modulator directly to the stereo. The modulator box should have a spot to plug the factory antenea to plug into.

As far as the wiring, I did use the ground and the pink accessory wire under the console so the xm would turn off when the car was turned off. For power I ran through the firewall behind the dash on passenger side of the car (where the pcm cables run through) and connected to the positive junction box under the hood.

I'll Try to some pics of the install tomorrow if I get some free time.

I used the solderless crimp style connectors for all of the connections i needed to make.

BTW Which system are you installing?

Thanks for the reply.

Yes I do know about the antenna connector, but that's very easy as it's just plugs. I don't get what you mean about running power through the firewall...you can't just tap into the pink line?

Pics are appreciated. Thanks.

I'm installing the popular Delphi model, the one that can go in a stereo, a boombox, or a car. I liked it because I liked the screen format a lot better than the newer model, as well as its flexibility in the future.

I installed the xm commander unit so it may be a little different. It needed a constant 12v source so it could save settings etc, an accessory source to control it turning on and off and the ground. I used the pink wire for the accessory connection.

The pink wire works fine for accessory but if you need a source that is always on it will not work.

EDIT: I took a look at this install instruction: http://www.xmfan.com/images/delphimodulator.jpg

If this is the same as yours the pink wire should be fine

Just tap into the power behind the deck and ground the unit, then unplug the ant from the radio plug it into the RF modulator, then plug the RF Modulators ant into the deck
