Installing new head unit

Hey guys im kinda new to this. I have a new pioneer 850mp head unit and i wanna try to install it myself? What else do i need? I have heard i need a kit but i dont know what kind? Also i looked at the back of the deck and it seems like it is just plugs in, do i have to do any other kind of wiring? Im just hooking it up to the stock stuff. Thanks

I just installed a Clarion head unit yesterday with very little problems.
All you need is:
A) Wire adapter to go from GM Plug -> New Head Unit Plugs
B) GM Mounting Kit for car steros
C) GM Antenna adapter to your new head unit.
All easily found at all car audio stores....

The wire adapter (A) requires you to plug one end into the stock radio wires. The other end has open wires which you match up and join to the wires which plug into the head unit. Just make sure you get some twist cap connectors for the wires, you will need around 12 or more of these caps. Take your time on this part as all the connections need to be done properly. If you mess up on a wire, just cut it and redo the connection. What wire is what is included in the packaging of the pigtail and the install instructions on the head unit.

Once you kinda connect those two wire sets together all you need is to build the mounting kit. Usually jsut requires a few screws and plastic pieces here and there. If youve built model anythings you can figure this out no problem.

Finally head to the car, install the antenna adapter and plug the radio in (before screwing it all down!) Test to make sure your radio and all your speakers work with the new head unit. If done correctly it should all work fine. If all works, just install the new mounting kit with the stereo in it, make sure all the wires are maybe taped or twist tied together. Prevents them from jiggling loose in the future.

Thats it! Hopefully this helps anyone wanting to install a head unit

Re: Installing new head unit

Look in the "install it yourself" section. No password needed in that section.

That's odd. I don't have a password and can get on it OK.

I have a 95Z vert and had a 4 spker 6"-1/2 system. It was an Delco theftlock II system with no external amp.

Re: Installing new head unit

Google on "installdr" and see if you can get in that way. Also try the cached version. I think there is a step by step for a '95.
