Incar Computer

Does anyone have any good links refering to building a computer into your car. I am planning on putting a 800-1g hz 2/ a 40gig hd and a nice sound card in a box where the ttops would go. TOuch pad in the place of the ash tray (95 bird) and a small wireless keyboard connected to a 7" widescreen lcd. I pretty much know what i am going to do i just want to see some other work

Lightbulb Helpful Sites

Hey! I was contemplating doing this and I have been collecting parts for about a year. Then I bought my 00 SS and I don't want to mess her up, so I will pass along these pages I have checked out alot.

http://MP3car.com
-There are alot of examples on here...some broken links to member pages though, just choose MP3car examples from the main page.

http://www.ashleypowers.com/
-Got alot of ideas from these two installs...definitely check this one out.

http://www.angibabi.com/camaro/carputer/install.htm
-Here is one installed in a 2001 SS...some interesting ideas...I prefer a hidden LCD screen, but definitely check this one out.

Hope these HELP!

Good shot, those help. What were you planning on doing. I want to lose my head unit and get a indash 7" screen w/ just a tuner, nothing else. Then i want to build my p2 400 into a box and put it where the t-tops would sit. Planning on upgrading soundcard, graphics card, and hd. Touchpad where the ashtray is on a 95 bird and a wireless mini keyboard in the door pocket. 2 amps, for mids and bass. 2 decent 10s in back and 2 decent conponets up front and some sound deadening to boot. I've already got the computer just need to build it into a box after i get my gc sc and hd. Friends got a wholesale electronic catalouge and i found the screen i want for around 5-6 hundred. Touchpads are insanely cheap, and the computer conponents arnt too bad either. The most costly thing will be the audio and the screen.

OK, my origianl plans were for a 10.4" Datalux LCD touchscreen, DVD drive in place of my stereo...run straight out of the soundcard to the amps, 8 speakers, plus subs...3 amps. I have EVERYTHING except the LCD, so i still may do this...I was trying to find a way to mount the screen so it could be "stowed" I really dont like it being huge and in the way all the time. I was going to run a P3 500MHz, 256 MB ram, 30GB hard drive. Had a small keyboard, and this kewl little credit card size remote control that Creative makes. I still may do something if I can figure out how to do it without trashing my car. Poor garage is full of amps, subs, speakers, computer parts. OY!

For the LCD panel, if you were willing to give up the passenger airbag, could you mount it there, with actuators to lift it.

You could mount it on a swivel so you could turn it, and have it fold down into the dash, with the stock cover on the back so it blends in.

Just a thought.
