So you suggest the JBL one huh..I might try that. Time for something new - Lanzar Vibe has been good to me though.
It is a 2 and 1 ohm stable mono amp, so in this case you would run both subs with all the coils in parallel and then to the amp. The way that it differs from running one sub off each channel of a two channel is in the fact that the signal is converted to a mono signal in the JBL and that can help with phasing issues in a common chamber sealed box, and may squeeze a little more SPL if they are seperated.

Hmm...that's awesome. Thanks for the heads up man. I'll be sure to get a mono channel amp. I'm liking that JBL audio amp a lot - in my price range and everything. Would that 600 watt be big enough or would it be worthwhile to spend the little extra money to get more power?

Like I said, I think those are 300watt RMS subs. The JBL will put out a tad under 700. It is perfect.

Actually the subs are 650 watts RMS rated, the 650 watts is the thermal RMS rating, and dependant on the box they can take more or less than that. I believe Dan said that 400 watts in a 1.5 cube box brings the sub to full linear excursion. With that amp i would recommend a 1.25-1.5 cube box.

It states 375MAX per coil and 650MAX for the driver. RMS would be half that value.
Same info at ampman.com

First off,
Yes, ScottS is crazy... Certifiably so...

Anyway, 650W is the thermal rating for Shiva. But please heed WhosYourDaddy's advice about the subsonic. Big - or even medium - power and vented boxes can quickly destroy drivers, from the unloading of the driver below tuning.

Doug,
Power handling for ANY subwoofer is COMPLETELY dependent upon the enclosure used. One cannot make a blanket "this driver can handle X Watts" statement about any driver, unless you're talking about the rated THERMAL Power Handling.

Thermal power handling is how much power the driver can take before the voice coil begins to melt (well, the wire doesn't melt, but the varnish on the voice coil wire starts to burn off). For Tempest, long term thermal power handling (periodic bursts, 30 seconds long with 120 seconds off between) is 750W.

Agreed. But Adire are the ones who made the product and they put out on their spec sheet a rated peak amount. It IS dependant on the enclosure but you have to draw the line somewhere, and Adire has settled an average amount. I understand totally what you are saying about the thermal power handling, that's what it's all about, but Adire clearly states a peak amount of power to be used with this driver. Whether that's over or under rated..... who knows.....some enclosures will handle more.... some less.

i have heard a 10w6v2 in a stealthbox with 500 watts, and it sounds great, gets lower than he wanted it to, definatley exceeded his expectations...

I ended up buying 98bird's setup. 2 JL 12W3's with the subthump box. Seems to be great - my Pioneer 7400mp arrived today - can't wait to install it. Thanks for all of your advice guys!
