I need to GET power locks/alarm
I need to GET power locks/alarm
I have manual locks and I need to get power locks. How can I do this (as cheap as possible...I mean, no buying new doors and painting to match)? I NEED to get an alarm and everybody I talked to says that alarms run off of your power locks.
You don't have to have power door locks to have an alarm. You just won't be able to lock and unlock the doors when you arm and disarm with your alarm remote. If you want to be able to lock and unlock your doors with your alarm remote when you arm and disarm then you will have to put accuators in the doors. Accuators is like motors that moves the rod inside your door panel that controls the locks. At my shop we charge about $90 per door for the accuators and labor to put them in, plus the price of the alarm. You can just put one in the driver door to operate that one by your remote and you'll have to manually operate the pass door like you do now. If you are just worried about an alarm and don't care about the door locks then you can do that to which would be the most cost effective way to do it. I hope this helps.

Thanks, that helps a lot...How hard is it to put in the actuators (I knew I needed them, but I thought there was a lot more to it)? I wire up ground effect neons all the time and I hook up sound systems every now and then too, is it a lot harder then that to hook up the actuators?...I just keep having my car hit by stuff when I'm at work (5 hit and runs so far...I'm kinda pissed cause I work 60 hour weeks and can barely pay off the car/engine swap themselves)...Also, could one of you guys sell me the actuators and everything I'll need to hook them up? Thanks for all the help, I've been looking for an answer for this for months.

I've installed alarms and keyless entry but never in a manual lock car so I can't help you with actuator info.
But, what you will need to do is use the alarm's unlock and lock outputs to trigger relays that then supply power to the actuators to lock/unlock the doors.
I'm sure someone else can fill you in on actuators.

Does anybody have any more advice? How much do the actuators cost? Also, don't I need a big wiring harness too? How much does EVERYTHING cost that I'll need to swap out the manual locks to power (except the actual switch on the door)...

never realized the actuators were so cheap. You need 2 actuators and an alarm. almost all alarms have an output to control your door locks, just make sure the one you get has this feature.

Would this one be better: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2423876868
It comes with the actuators, hardware, wire harness, and the module...Is that all I need other then the actual switches that go on my doors?

Sure. That would make things a lot easier because it looks like most of it is prewired and it's cheap too. So all you need is that kit and an alarm. You probably won't even need to wire any relays if you get that kit, depending on the features of your alarm it should just hook right up.
