HU wont come on
HU wont come on
Okay today I was working on the power window/door lock switches on the driver side when something got shorted to ground. Afterwards when I turned my car on, my head unit no longer turns on. I checked the radio fuse in the fuse box and the fuses in the back of the Head unit. Anyone have any ideas about what to check next?
Re: HU wont come on
The first rule to follow when you are doing ANY electrical work on your car is to disconnect the battery. NO exceptions!!!
Did you test the fuses or just look at them? You really need to test them to be sure they are good. On more than one occassion I've had a fuse the "looked" good but was in fact blown when I tested it. Instead of the element inside burning up it simply disconnected at the end of the element making look as if it were OK to use.

Re: HU wont come on
If you have a multimeter use it to make sure 12V is getting to the HU. Remove the HU and unplug it from the harness and make sure the harness has 12V where it's supposed to. If you have 12V there you know it's the HU that is the problem. If you don't have 12V in the harness you know the problem is elsewhere. A fuse you miised maybe? An accidently disconnected wire somewhere perhaps? I see this all the time when crimp connectors are used instead of soldering the wires together.
Re: HU wont come on
well I found out I burnt up the Retained Accessory Power module. Thats why I lost my power windows and radio. Supposedly, its a Dealership repair only and I dont even know where its in the car. So for now, i have a fused hot wire with a switch to turn my radio and power windows on and off.
Re: HU wont come on
what I would do is take that hot wire and splice into the ignition harness into the accesory lead so basically you would loose RAP but your radio and windows would work, thats a pricey piece if i recall
Re: HU wont come on
yeah. I read the electrical schematics in my Haynes (s/p) manual and found out that power windows and radio run off the same wire going to the RAP module so they are the only things I lost. I'll just use this switch from now on.
