How would this sound...
How would this sound...
I've been throwing around ideas for a nice and light weight stereo. I was thinking about replacing the door speakers with nice 6" mids, then putting tweeters in the rear panels in the trunk in those grills from the monsoon system. Then using a 10" or 12" sub in a subthump box. No speakers in the rear seat area.
What do you pros think?

/\ I'll go w/ what he has stated. I was told by a reputable sterio guy out here that I was to mount the Mid bass speakes up front and the 2 ways in the, middle in our cars. and leave tha bass in the trunk. BUT I was told by someone here (CZ28) that the only people running mid-bass speakes in the front are running a digital processor....I'm going to go w/ the Cz28 guy, but I built my buddy's sterio in his 92 BMW Euro spec 318i and he has the mid bass mounted up font and it sounds somewhat, wierd...I dunno...I'd put the 2 ways up font, the mid bass in the mid and the bass in the rear.
For the component speakers, (mid/ rears) turn the tweets down on the cross-over. I presume you will be running non-adjustable 2 way fronts. If you want DEFINITION, go w/ Infinity Kappa Components and 2 ways. My bud has the Reference series and they soud GOOD, and he listens to rap, primarily....
---IMO...I have two Infinity Kappa Purfect 12's in the subthump T-Top Box (soon to be installed) I'm kind of out of the country, Germany.....Mil....anyway...............uh.....yea h

Re: How would this sound...
Well I was actually thinking 2ways in the doors, sorry. I thought tweeters in the back for a rear channel cause in my reg cab truck it sounds so flat, not very good IMO. Guess I'm wrong? I just don't see a use for the rear seat speakers other than bass, seeing as how they are pointed at eachother. And since I'll have a 10 or 12 in the trunk...seems like unneeded weight ya know?
Re: How would this sound...
no tweets in the back, they'll just be competing with the sub, and you don't want that. You could put them in the stock locations or very close to them, or better yet, in the door panels with the 6s if you can fit them.
Your idea for the subthump will work, just make sure you find a sub that will work well in it. I recommend the Alpine S-type. R-types are good too.

Unless you have an overwhelming amount of bass, frequencies are not likely to be cancelled out.
IMO for a nice lightweight stereo, get a 5channel amp, a set of components (midbass in door tweeter in a-pillar/door/wherever you think it sounds best). Single 10 in a stealth in the back. Sub would obviously be the heaviest thing you have, and that would only weigh around 25-30 lbs.

Re: How would this sound...
Check out my car's setup (link below). It's a simple 3 speaker setup with components up front and subs in the back. Even so I still have people asking me what I use for rear fill. I've even had to pop off the grills just to prove it to some of them that there aren't any rear speakers.
Re: How would this sound...
Ok, I went online shopping a bit. If you want to look over my list, that'd be awesome.
I still need help with an amp for the fronts, and can't decide between these 3 or 4 way speakers for the doors. Anyways...
JVC H/U part #jvckdg110
Pioneer 3 way part #piotsa1671r
or Pioneer 4 way part #piotsa1780r
RF Punch 10" part #rocrfd2210
Power Acoustik amp part#powov21200
Everything is from etronics.com
Good, bad?

Re: How would this sound...
A couple more questions.
The recommended sealed box volume of the sub I want is .85 cu ft. The volume of the Subthump's passenger side box is .7 cu ft. Would it make a difference if I had the sub "fire" inward vs ******ds? Could I gain that extra volume needed? Is there any sound difference when firing inward vs ******d? Or should I just use some of that box fill or whatever?
Second, the frequency response of the sub is 24-500hz. The amp I'd like to get has a frequency response of 10-30khz, and the variable low pass is 30-500hz. Does this mean I will not beable to get some of the low low bass? Seeing how the sub will go down to 24hz and the amp will only go to 30hz? Or will the amp go to 10hz? Sorry for the question that may seem dumb. Just trying to learn...TIA
