Re: How to test a Car Audio Amplifier
To test an amp with a multimiter, you switch it to AC volts, as audio is a form of AC.
Hook it up to a power and ground source, and a signal with a track of just bass tones. You can find test tones all over the 'net, or with a comp cd or bass mekanic, something along those lines. Fire it up and measure the volts.
It's hard to say what voltage you'll see as you have to have a fixed wattage to determine exactly what it should be. But if you just want to verify that it works, as long as you see some voltage.
I've measured my MTX81000D around 20 some odd volts at a decently low volume.
But, if you're going to go that far, you might as well hook up a speaker *shrug*

Re: How to test a Car Audio Amplifier
Hook a positive wire from your battery to the + and remote terminal and then hook a wire to the - terminal and find a good ground and see if the power light comes on. If you want to test it fully, get a stereo reciever with RCA outs and plug it into the inputs on the amp, then hook a speaker to each output and see if sound comes out.
