How to tell if Theftlock is active on radio....

I'd like to replace the battery in my 2000 Z28 soon.
I bought the car used, almost 4 years ago to the day, and have never had to disconnect
the battery. I'm concerned I'll lock myself out of using my radio/CD player when I
disconnect the battery.

I did search the site for any type of indication on how to tell if theftlock has been activated or not. I did find a reference:
"The LED indicator by the volume control will begin flashing when the ignition is turned off."
I do have what appears to be a white LED next to the volume control, and it always stays off. Does this mean my theftlock is inactive? If so, that's fine by me, and I'd like to leave it off.

I do have a second concern with my Z.
Now and then I'll start the car, and there is no display on the radio, and the power windows won't work. I'll shut off the car, open the door, restart the car, and on the second or third attempt everything works fine. I've searched around and can't find any references to a problem like this on this site, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

I can't say what a great resource this site is. I'd like to take a second and thank everyone that contributes here. Sometime back I had to replace the motor for my drivers side window, and found an excellent walk through on the procedure here. Much thanx!
Last week I had to replace the water pump on the LS1. Once again I came here and found all the details I needed to do it myself. A shop quoted me $550 for the job. I did it for $168, which included a new thermostat. I just can't thank you folks enough!

On my Firebirds, there is a red led that flashes when the theftlock is active.

I'm hoping this means it isn't activated. The lens looks white maybe the led bulb is red?
As I've never seen it lit, I'm just guessing.

It's active on my 1995 V6. When the car is parked and turned off a little red LED flashes every few seconds on the radio face. On my Formula, it was deactivated (I hope)...good for me since I don't have the code. There's no LED flashing, so Theftlock is not activated or the light has malfunctioned.

I have no flashing light/LED on the radio at all, so based on your info I feel fairly certain that the Theftlock is not active. Appreciate your input, thanks.

Now if I could only figure out why my car starts fine, but I have no radio or power windows. This doesn't happen often, maybe once every week or two, but it does bug me when it occurs.
Thanks again for your help!
