How do you disconnect/bypass factory amp?
How do you disconnect/bypass factory amp?
I got a pioneer headunit and 4 6 1/2's recently and don't want the distortion the factory amp creates. I would like it off all the time but don't know much about amps. Can this been done easily?
Re: How do you disconnect/bypass factory amp?
Just remove the factory HU and install your new HU. Run all new wiring to your speakers and you won't even have to touch the POS Monsoon amp. The POS Monsoon amp uses speaker level inputs to turn itself OFF & ON. Since there won't be anything connected to it to turn it ON you don't have to worry about it.
BTW- Since you have a Pioneer HU you have my condolences. In my over 30 years experience in car audio, Pioneer has THE worst quality track record of any brand I've ever dealt with.

Re: How do you disconnect/bypass factory amp?
Is there any way to splice wires at the amp to bypass it? I just don't want to go through the hassel of removing the door pannels and running new wires. Thanks for the help thusfar.
Re: How do you disconnect/bypass factory amp?
You have to remove the door panels anyway in order to install your new speakers so you may as well do the job right and run all new wiring too. If you try to use the factory wiring you're gonna have to do a lot of tracing of wires and splicing them together and I NEVER recommend splicing wires (or using any of the factory wiring for that matter).
Re: How do you disconnect/bypass factory amp?
The reason I wanted to bypass it in that maner was because the door speakers are already in
. I guess I could always just get a new amp. Or, is there any modification I can do to the factory amp the blocks it from ever turning on?
Thanks

Re: How do you disconnect/bypass factory amp?
The amp is located above the rear wheel on the passenger side of the car. It's mounted to a plastic panel and is on the fender side of that panel. Once you find the amp just un-plug the wiring harness from it. If you want to splice into the factory wiring all the wires you need will be right there in the plug you pulled out of the amp. Good luck determining which wires are which.
Re: How do you disconnect/bypass factory amp?
Unplug the harness from the amp and then connect it to a GM 32 pin radio harness adapter. You will need two of them because you have to steal pins from one to fill the empty spots in the other. You can then just crimp your inputs to your outputs and the amp is bypassed. I have all the wire color info in my toolbox at work so I'll get those to you as soon as I can.
