How do I seal off my subplate?

I got my sub plate installed in my trunk but its not air tight, what could I use to seal it around the trunk. I have the picture of it so you guys can see what it looks like and what I am talking about but I need a host.

Sub plate?

I'm assuming that you just made a plate for the hatch and mounted your subs there?

Not a good idea, most subwoofers require an enclosure to work properly. They need either a sealed box or a properly designed ported box.

There are exeptions, but AFAIK most subwoofers are NOT recommended for an infinate baffle setup, which is what you basically have.

Re: How do I seal off my subplate?

I went to some shop get some subs and a box, the guy told me that subplate would be better for my car and it would look better too. So I took his advice, yeah it looks good but it sound back, I don't have that clean deep bass. I used a small amp for the subs for a while that's why I allways thought it sounds the way it does, finally about year and half I got better amp for it and It does not much better. I went back there but the guy was not there, another guys said try using dyno mat (or what ever its called) and put it around the trunk and the subplate to seal it off, I don't know how well that would work, is there something alse I could do.

What aubs are you running and what car is it in? that'll help me come up with the options for you on what will be the best.

You can try the dynamat or some spray-on ruberizd undercoating (My personal favorite) but I doubt it'll help your situation any.

My thoughts exactly... propably some wet-behind-the-ears kid who thought he knew what he was talking about when he really didn't know squat.

A sub plate is never going to sound better than an actual enclosure for obvoius reasons. I doubt if it looks as good as he says either. I think a box would look way better. At least the ones I make would. But he sounds like a typical salesman. They will tell you anything in order to get a sale--and that's all they care about. I bet if you took it back and told him it sounded like azz, he'd either make up a bunch of excuses or try to sell you some junky box he carries.

How hard is to make a sub box for f-bodys because the trunk is so small. I would like to make one myself.
