Question How can I tell if these subs are any good?

Long story short, I found a pair of JL Audio 10" speakers. They have nothing on them as for numbers other than "2598 10W80" on the side of the magnet. I'm not big on car stereo so I figured you guys would know what these are. My home stereo has 10's in them, could I just put them in to there to see if they work? If not what can I do to find out if they are any good. If they are in working order they will be for sale for cheap.

You can use a multimeter to check the voice coils for continuity or you can do the POP test. Take a battery and touch it to the + and - leads of the speakers for just an instant. If the cone moves the speakers should be good.

Thanks... well heres the verdict. 1 works and the other sort of works, but it has a problem. Aparently both speakers have been "repaired". On each one, one of the wires going from the terminal into the speaker is broken. One has been repaired with some solider and the other looks like somone has attempted to repait it but was unsucessfull. The coil is fine, but the wire is broken off and the center of the speaker (where it has JL AUDIO on it) is partialy pushed in. Anyone out there fix theres things? Any one want to buy em? ... real cheap?

Any truth to this? My g/f's brother said you can buy rebuild kits for speakers... I'm going to try and repair this one myself, but if it doesnt work, can I buy rebuilds for it? If so where?

Not buying them... I got these suckers for free. If I can manage to fix em I'll use em for the surrond sound system in the garage.

Like I said, one works, the other just has t5he wire broken off. I hooked em up to my house stereo and they work fine. Just have to figure out how to get that 1 wire back on... its broke off right where it goes into the speaker. I'll figure something out.
