How bout this setup?

I think this is a very good setup. I'm a big JL Audio sub fan. So here it goes.

2 JL Audio 12w3- d4s i n a sealed enclosure
Kicker 500.2 for the subs
Kicker 200.2 for the highs
mb quartz for the front and rear 6 1/2s
Alpine CDM-7874 cd player

Should these subs pound as in make it hard to breath in the car.? Possibly causing a few heart skips in the process? Yet still give tight and accurate bass. Never had a set of the new W3s. I have heard very good things about them.

I did have a set of W4s back in the day with a Kicker zr240 and they were awesome. The Kicker 500.2 amp has more power and has the 18db bass boot to the boot. Should be an even better setup. What do you guys think?

Those are some decent subs. Fantastic buy for the money.... but hard to breath???... probably not. And in a sealed enclosure..... no. I'm not trying to bring you down but I don't think you are going to get what you are looking for. Any reason you chose to go with Kicker amps? They are good, but a little too expensive. You can get an amp that puts out more watts for less money.... easy. MB Quartz are good, and Alpine makes some VERY nice head units. If you don't mind me asking, what is your budget on the subs and amps? I can give you some recomendations if you like. Also, I would consider going ported... Post back and I will try to help more.

Have you actually heard the MB Quart speakers or are you just going on recommendations by others? The reason I ask is because to me MB tweets are VERY harsh sounding. I swear they can etch glass sometimes.

Although I haven't heard the newest subs from JL I CAN tell you that the Alpine Type-S I have now blows away the 10W3 I was using. I'm using a JL Vantage Stealthbox that only has .6 cubic feet of volume to work with. The Alpine sub is a MUCH better match for this enclosure than the JL sub was. It plays louder, goes lower and hits MUCH harder than the JL ever did.

I can get both of the Kicker amps together for $450 pluss shipping. They are pricey unless you know where to get deals. Never go locally to pick up some stuff. They will rip you a new ahole. The JLS are super smooth speakers IMO. Now I used to have an old setup with Kicer zr240 and 2 kicker comps in another Camaro and it pounded my eardrums to death. I would say these new JLS and a more powerful amp will hit just as hard but sound better to boot. As for the MB quartz. I can always just go with some Pioneer or Kicker coaxials. I've used Pioneer in the past and have had no gripes about them. I have a Pioneer deh 7400 in my truck and I like it pretty good. It's just I want a different deck in my car.

Now I can get that same system I owned back for my Camaro. The good thing about it. The box is allready built. The amp rack built and I can probably trade an old home theater tuner and a center channel with surround speakers(the surrounds and center is Koss and the tuner is 500 watt prologic Sony, I upgraded to a 600 watt dolby digital tuner)for it. The problem is. That stuff is 5 years old but even if stuff eventually gos bad. It can be easily replaced. That setup and beleive it or not. Just pounded my eardrums to death. The only gripe I had was that the Kicker comp 12s didn't sound as good as the JLS w4s i had in it. Now they hit harder. But the sound was just harsher. Are these new Kicker Comps any better in the sound department? Because the way that box is built with plenty of air space. I imagine many subs can be swapped in place of the old Kickers. If I want to. That setup used to be in a 96 Camaro. I would think the box and stuff should fit nicely in my 98.

Hey LS1. I notice you had the Magnaflow system on your car. You say it's not loud but is it loud when you get on it. Not stock quiet is it? You can hear the v8 rumble even at low crusiing rpms right? I hear some wav files on it and it sounds very good IMO. It's got that low rippling through the pipes v8 muscle sound. Way better than the tin can flowmaster sound. I don't want a loud droney exhuast but I do want it semi-loud when I get on it. Where you can hear that v8 muscle.

Then the Magnaflow is for you then. I heard Borlas and Flowmasters and a few others and they were all too loud for me. The Magnaflow was perfect for what I wanted.

I own a set of MB Quarts. Love em' I'm running 100WRMS to them and I don't think they are harsh. I like my highs to be heard... and heard well. To each his own... let him decide what he thinks sounds the best.
