Hifonics BX500D/Alpine Type-S sub
Hifonics BX500D/Alpine Type-S sub
Would this amp be ok to push a single 12" Alpine type-s sub wired for a 2 ohm load? Anyone had any any experience with this amp?? Though about putting this sub into a stealth box or a millhouse! Thanks
It's hard to say not having experince with the components but it seems that the amp might be weak under a 2 ohm load. It seems that it is rated at 500W @ 1 ohm which would likely be 250W @2ohms. 250W would not be adequate for my tastes. The sub seems weak also only rated to 200W max. I know it's considerably more money but you can't go wrong with a Kicker solobaric in a small sealed box with 400+ watts behind it. Even just a single 10" L7 would produce very convincing low tones with at least 400w pushing it.

If i recall that amp does 500 at 2 ohm... correct? That might be a bit much for that sub, but i don't have any experience with that sub.

No offense but maybe you should sart over and post some factual info.

Not so. My sub amp is rated at 600W @ 2ohms and I have no issues at all with the 10" Type-S I'm using.

I still say that Solo + small box = EEEWWWWW..... they aren't small box subs by any stretch of the imagination.

my mistake i guess the amp is only 250 watts at 2 ohm, i was going off memory and there isn't a whole lot of 500 watt amps that put out max power into 1 ohm so i assumed it was 2 ohm. And i didn't know how well it would handle 500 watts anyways. If Rulz says it works well with that power then i can go that way......

This statement is confusing to me. If you are saying that a kicker solobaric L7 won't work well in a small box then you couldn't be more incorrect. That is what is was designed for and anyone who has heard a correctly setup application can't dispute that it works well. If someone did refute that it would be like saying John Force can't drag race, Dragsters are slow, the space shuttle can't go into space, etc. etc. etc. Please tell me you are not saying that.

JL subs are quite similar. A 12w3 to me sounds a lot better with 1.25-1.5 cu.ft rather than the recommended .8 cu.ft. If you want a nice small box woofer, elemental designs sub are a good choice.

sorry guy, the round solos were made for small boxes, the square ones are a totally different animal. Look it up.... Do a little calculation to see what size box it takes to get a .707 QTC, and compare it to a real small box sub like an Adire Brahma, IDQ Eclipse Aluminum..... If you actually knew something about them i would take you seriously, but it appears that you have not looked at the specs.

Efficiency has nothing to do with cone type.... care to argue?
Hoffman's Iron Law states that a speaker can have two of the following three attributes.
Low frequency extension
Efficiency
small box
the factors that determine this are MMS, BL, suspension compliance...... not cone material.
Why is it that the Eclipse Aluminum is a very warm sounding sub? It has an Aluminum cone... not paper. If your sub is lacking punch i think it has more to do with the design than cone material...
I still stand by the fact that the Solo is not a small box driver.... Even Polecat will admit that. He works for Kicker and he has stated many times that the L7 is not a small box sub like the round ones were.... care to argue? CALL THE COMPANY!!!! They will tell you.... The specs are not that misleading. Kicker recommends 6 cubes for the .707 box for the 15 that is not small..... the 15" Uber woofer that i am having built does a .707 in a 1.2 cube sealed.... That is small.
