help with my cd player
i was on my way to work the other day when all of the sudden my cd player quit playing. i took the cd out and put it back in, but i got an error message. every cd i put in i get an error message. this happened before with severely scratched cds, but a few of the ones i tried were brand new. the deck is stock. the car is a 94 formula. guy i bought it from said it was the monsoon system. its got the 10 speakers, but i dont see a monsoon emblem anywhere on the deck so im guessing its probobly an ac delco or whatever the stock deck is. i tried using a cleaner, but that hasnt helped. is the deck done or is it fixable?
Unfortunately that sounds like a classic sign of the motor on the cd player(the one the spins the cd) burning out. I had a friend with a Kenwood Head unit that had the same thing happen. The easiest thing to do is to check if the cd is spinning. Most stock head units are a bit noisy when they spin up. If it's spinning up, and still getting errors, your laser might have burned out.
There are adapters you can buy that make using an aftermarket head unit with a stock system fairly easy. I would look into that, I think you'd be much happier with an aftermarket head unit anyway.
BTW, the Head unit intself should say Monsoon on it if its a Monsoon system. If it says AC Delco, or nothing, then it's probably not Monsoon.
Maybe the Pontiacs had different options, but my 94 Z28 came with the 3 Speaker Bose system(2 door speakers and a 6 1/2" sub) in back. This was the best, and as far as i know, only upgrade over the stock system for the z28 in 94. If you want to know for sure, take one of the side(sail) panel covers off, and see if there are speakers under it. Mine came with no sail panel speakers.
