Help with audio problem

I have an aftermarket cd player and aftermarket speakers in my 95 z28. The front speakers seem to crackle and cut in and out. But I know its not the speakers themselves, cause the same problem happened with my stock speakers. The worst crackle is when i go over bumps. It really gets annoying. When its not crackling or cutting in and out, it sounds pretty nice. What do you guys think it could be? I dont know much about car audio so any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

It is possible youre speakers are hitting the door skin when you go over bumps. I would check that. I would think it has to be that or a bad speaker wire connection to your HU.

I'm 99% convinced it's a bad connection. What did you use to splice in the new speakers? Some people swear by solder, but I find it to become brittle in car applications. I always use butt connectors combined with heat shrink in areas prone to water.

Try tapping around the door area with the radio playing...no cracks? Wiggle the wiring behind the stereo.

Solder connections are MUCH more reliable than crimp on butt connectors. If you have brittle solder joints it's because you have poor soldering skills. In my 30 years of installing I've seen more butt connectors get pulled apart than I can count.

Maybe you're right...but then he should have someone else do it since he stated he wasn't that handy with electronics. When it comes to my DJ stuff, I always solder everything. Holds VERY nicely. Just I had some issues in the past with the vibrations in my cars with audio being soldered after several years...only time I have a butt connector fail is when the wrong size is used

Re: Help with audio problem

well i had a buddy install the speakers, but like i said, the stockers crackled too. i had a different buddy install the cd player, which came months before the new speakers. is it possible that their is a bad connection right behind the cd player and not the speakers??
