Has anyone done this ???

I like the factory look of things in my car and I also dont mind the factory stereo except that you cannot replace the speakers when they blow .

I have read that you can use the factory HU and replace the monsoon amp with a new amp and speakers on www.fbodyaudio.com

Has anyone done this ? how easy was it to figure out the wiring and do you have any tips ?

replacing the amp is very expensive. if you want stock looking then keep the head unit. add a small amp and a jl audio (hidden) sub they sound great and its very un noticable

Stock

I like to keep things stock looking also man.. I changed out my whole system though. Didn't know what i wanted exactly until I found the ALPINE 1.5 din Decks.. They fit nicely in gm's oversize hole. Thats if you were looking to change everything. Also I put the stealthbox with a 10 mtx in it. Sounds great even though the box is a little small for the sub.

o ya the wiring is easy. its the same as any stereo. but amps that have more than 4 channels ar every expansive. a good one will run over 1000 dollars. you can replace any speaker in the car but some of them are funny shapes.

Over a Grand?? Yea, top of the line stuff. You can get a good quality Kicker or RF 4 channel amp for 1/2 that... easially. You can get an Alpine 5 channel for about $500 that will power EVERYTHING including a small sub.

Funny shapes? The base 4 are just 6.75" speakers, no funny sizes.

He was talking about a 5 or 6 channel amp..... but I still agree with you. You can easily find a quality one for under $1k. Easily. And I have know idea what "funny shapes" you are talking about........ maybe like a star shape???

I've got the stock HU and changer and I've changed everything else out. You need a PAC OEM-1 to accomplish this.

Check out the link in my sig for pics as well as installation instructinos.

They make a simple Bracket so you can use the 6.5" speakers. Its really easy i actually put 5.25" speakers in there place cause i got them really cheap. And on ebay you see people selling there complete monsoon system every so often so you can go that route if youd like.
