Grounding Factory H/U

In the never ending quest to get engine and electrical noise out of my system, I'm going to be doing some H/U grounding. I'm doing this because I noticed some engine noise coming through on AM stations when the system was completetly stock, so I feel that part of the problem lies with the factory H/U ground. Currently, it is grounded through the stock wire harness, which leads to a factory ground used for the power antenna. I also have the speaker-level inputs grounded there. I was thinking about cuting the grounding wire near the head unit, and then running some 8AWG ground wire from there to my transmission tunnel. What do you guys think about this?
I was also thinking about addind a second ground from the H/U chassis to the transmission tunnel (which was suggested before) at the same point. Is this a good idea? How would I attach a ground to the H/U's chassis? TIA!

hhmm...I say take your center console out and ground it under the HVAC. You'll see a pice of metal there w/ two 10mm screws. That's not where I have my HU grounded but that's where I gound my manual fan switch and it works well. You could give it a try

To ground the chassis/case of the HU, just loosen up one of the external screws on the radio and attach the ground wire there. It may help. You should also check the antenna. See www.installdr.com for info on antenna checking.

Thanks for the help. I ended up drill a new hole and sanded away all the paint on the transmission tunnel just below the HVAC controls. The took the wire coming out of the harness, and mated it with some 8AWG wire, and attached it to that point. I also attached an 8 AWG ground to one of the assembly screws, and mounted it to the same point on the tranny tunnel.
Unfortunately, I'm still getting a ton of noise! This is getting frustrating. I'm sure my amps are grounded well. My amps are mounted in the pass side rear fender well. Is there away to get to the frame from in there? That's the only ground that I could image being better.

If you have aftermarket plug wires, you may never get rid of all the noise. I know all of them say they don't have any effect on the radio, but they do. MSD is the worst I ever used for putting noise in the radio.

My electrical system is stock except for an MSD box, which is mounted on the opposite side as the battery. I'll keep tha in mind though, as I will be putting in new wires tax time next year whe I do my headers.
