Talking Got new head-unit and speakers how should I hook it all up?

I just bought a blaupunkt headunit and a pair of pioneer speakers. I was thinking about putting the new speakers in the front and moving the stock fronts to the rear, because i heard the stock rear speakers have way more than 4 ohms of independance. Thats all fine and dandy, but I dont want to cut my stock wires. I was thinking of running new wires under the dash and throught the doors, so I wouldnt have to splice the facory wires, or option #2 is using the facory wires, and 3M scotchlocks to attach pigtails to the stock wires so they will fit the speakers.

Looking for advice. Is moving the front speakers to the back a good idea, or should I leave em? And do i run new wires, do the pigtail thing, or just butt splice the new harnesses onto the old wires?

Hey Teddy....

Scotchlocks are bad mkay. Dont bother. If the car isnt a Monsoon or Bose you can get adapters. If you dont wanna hack the plugs, youre best bet is to strip some wire and solder the new stuff in and follow with heat shrink or some great tape (I preffer 3M 33+ ~$4 roll).

I was a little scared about the scotchlocks too, so i guess its solder or new wires, that wouldn't be much harder.

Run some new wiring. It's not THAT difficult and the stock stuff is very tiny. You're looking at around probably 6 hours tops to do the whole thing. Some 16 gauge would be fine for your application. And yes pick up a soldering iron, get a good high watt one, and some shrink wrap. You can just use electrical tape, but shinkwarp is neato .

Check www.knukonceptz.com they have a killer price on speaker wire right now.
