Not too sure about amps though...can anyone give me any recommendations? I would greatly appreciate it!

 

I would recommend finding a like-new MTX 6500D on eBay. They're super cheap, and mine bench tested at over 600 watts rms. Should be a plenty fine match for your subs.

Edit: Just noticed you'll be running DVC subs. That means you'll have to find an amp that delivers at least 600 watts RMS at 4 ohms, not 2. In that case, I would probobly recommend a JL 500/1.

Which front speakers did you go with?

 

That's the only other thing I need to pick out. Still haven't decided. Got any recommendations on those too?

 

Also, when subs are able to handle a certian amount of wattage, is it a bad idea to give it that much exactly? For example, the ones I am wanting can hold up to 1000...so is it a better idea to get a big amp to give it the maximum wattage?

 

Typically, subs blow when you underpower them. Very rarely do I see a customer come in with a blown sub that was fried by putting too much power to it. That would usually only be the case for a system built for SPL drags.

Overall, it's a good idea to give the subs as much power as possible. It's far easier to turn the bass down, than to crank the amp to max. If you have to crank it up to max, you'll be running a lot of distortion, and you'll more than likely blow your subs.

The 500/1 is a very nice amp, but it'll be on the pricey side. If you're on somewhat of a budget, a JBL 600.1 would be a nice choice too.

For components, again on a budget, I would recommend Clarion's new Pro-Audio components. They use a similar cone material to the G Funk subs, and they put out a pretty impressive amount of midbass. They also run well off of deck power. They're cheap on eBay to boot.

Money no object, Alpine SPX's for sure. You'll definetly need an amp, but I've heard them off of deck power, and in car, they play deep.

Warren G, eh? How's the SQ on those? I've seen them and I hope they're better than the Master P Fast&Furious line! I have a love affair with the digital display of alpine amps. They look cool as hell with the temperature and whatnot on them. I don't know alot about amps though I'll step aside and let the big dogs handle this one!

 

I'm new to all this stuff as well, but I've heard the Warren G's in person, and they are GREAT. They hit really really hard. It is just a very good quality sounding sub...not only for bass, but just good all around.

 

Alpine amps leave a lot to be desired. Low SN ratios, high price points for power output, and higher THD+N ratios.

MTX is still my favorite all around brand for amps, so long as your deck has a lot of EQ/Crossover functions.

JL's another favorite for amps, but you'll pay a lot for the name.

 

On a side note, after having played with all the big boys of mainstream subs, the best all around sub for SQ and SPL is the 10W7. The 8W7 might edge that out because in car, that is one amazing sub.
