Is this a good deal?

I went to HiFi Buys in Nashville looking for a system yesterday. They sell only the best stuff, Alpine, JL, Boston, Eclipse, etc.
Right now I have a Blaukpunt headunit, and two Alpine 63/4 coaxials in the doors, still have the Monsoon subs and hatch speakers. I'll put the Alpines in the back seat and use the head unit to run rear fill.
Here is what I was quoted:
Boston Acustics SL60 6 1/2 componets for the doors, $299
JL Slash 300 watt 4 way amp, $449
JL Stealthbox(tucks into the left rear cubbbyhole) with one 10W3v2-D2 sub, $399
Wire, $100
Install labor $285

I heard all of this stuff and the sound quality is simply amazing. So do you think I am getting a fair deal? The wire and labor seems a little high if you ask me. Of course this shop has the very best guys doing this stuff, they have some crazy one off customs that I have seen.

Also, when do the stores get their new stuff for 2005, and put their old stuff on sale? Or will they put it on sale?

Feel free to give your opinons and experiences with these products I listed too.

Re: Is this a good deal?

Couple questions for ya:

Are you using the 300/4 to run those components and the sub?

Why use the stealth box? Even though I too sell them, and they work really really well, you might be better off to get 1 12W3 and get a custom box built. The 12 is a super tight sub, and you'll definetly be happy with the sound.

Other wise, awesome gear. The wire does seem a little high, unless they're using the JL stuff. Good wire for sure.

Re: Is this a good deal?

I listen to some rap, but mostly metal, and alternative rock, and some country. I am mainly after superior sound quality, not blowing out the neighbors windows with bass. I am going to use the 300 by 4 amp to run the front componets and the sub. I'll run rear fill off of the head unit. I'll ask about the 12w3 and custom box next time I go in though. I think it will blow my budget though.

Just another cool tidbit, I've seen a camaro that had a big Audiobahn class D amp mounted in the back seatback. The seatback was hollowed out in the middle, and trimmed out real nice. Front of the seatback looked completely normal. It was real trick. Fold down the seat, bam, never expected an amp there

Re: Is this a good deal?

The 12W3V2's are amazing subs for rock. Whenever I demo them, I use "Santaria" by Sublime. You can actually feel each pluck on the bass guitar strings in your chest as the kick drum gives you palpatations.

The W3's are by far my favourite subs. Even more so than the W7's Even though I'll be running two 8W7's. That's more of a space issue than anything else.

Your setup will sound really nice. If you can budget for it, you might want to run a 250/1 to the sub and a 300/2 to the components. But, you'd be adding considerable cost for a 3-6 db gain. Up to you at that point.

Re: Is this a good deal?

That a lot of labor considering they are not building anything. Also the wiring charge is double to triple what it should be. I would keep shopping. If someone wanted to charge over $200 labor for that I would walk. I mean it's one amp. Only a four guage wiring kit at most, two rca cables, and some speaker wire. At my shop if I you were to quote that job high side labor charges 40 a pair for speakers; 50 for an amp and 40 for a deck. Streetwires rca $20 ea. 40 for 4 gauge wire and fuse holder and 30 cents a foot for speaker wire. thats like $275ish for labor and wiring.

Re: Is this a good deal?

yeah, I might negotiate with them on the labor and wire. I would pay at most $300 for the labor and wire. Keep in mind that these are componet speakers, more work there. I might be able to do the work myself, but it would take me quite a while to get it done, and I've never installed componets before.
