Good Component Speaker

I want to put a set of component speakers in the doors of my camaro and i was wondering what kind i should go with and how much im going to have to spend. Where abouts do you guys with components mount the tweeters? What do you guys think about Rockford Fosgate 6.5" Components?

Edit - As far as powering them. Can i run them off my HU for now? i have a Pioneer DEH-P9200R. will any set of components be okay off the head unit for a while untill i get another amplifier for them?

Thanks for the help

In order to sound their absolute best, component speakers really should be run off of an outboard amplifier. Components tend to be less efficient than co-axial type speakers therefore requiring more power. HU's just don't have the goods when it comes to high quality amplifier power.

Some affordable brands to consider and are easily found at stores so you can demo them include Polk Audio, Boston Acoustics, Kicker, Eclipse, Infinity, RF, MTX and others. Some top of the line speakers that are more expensive and a bit harder to find to demo include Focal, Dynaudio and others.

Since you have a Camaro you don't have the facatory tweeter location available to you like Firebird owners. Your only options are to cut a hole in your door panel to mount the tweets or using a custom tweeter pod at the top of the door where the rear view mirrors attach. Kick panels are another option but with the VERY limited amount of leg room in F-bodys, they aren't your best option.

As for what do I think about RF component speakers? I've heard better. The RF tweeters are rather zippy sounding to my ears.

What about the components that you have? How much would i have to pay for a set of those? i assume they need to be modified like these right? Click here to see the mod

As far as mounting do you mean the tweeter facing upward right next to the side mirrors or on that little triangular piece of plastic that is behind the mirrors?

Thanks

I'm using Boston Acoustics Rally component speakers. They don't "need" to be modified. I just know that film caps are better suited for crossover applications than the stock electrolytic caps are so I upgraded them. As a bonus they help to improve the sound of an already great sounding set of speakers.

The triangular pieces. Go to LS1.com and do a search for "tweeter pods" by SShevy (moderator) in the Electronics forum.
