Unhappy gauge lights shut off

about two days ago i was driving around not doing anything crazy just driving, i was stopped at at stoplight and i flashed my brights twice on and off, and just out of nowhere all my gauge lights, and shifter console light just shut off. i thought restarting my car would do it. nope. then i checked the fuses and the 5a fuse for the lights was blown, natually i replaced it. but everytime i turn my lights on the fuse blows again. i tried using a larger fuse {10a} but didn't solve it, it just blew. is there a short circut somewhere? i have a 1987 V8 5.0L.

Why don't you try a 50 amp fuse in there, maybe your whole dash will light up, only it will be flames instead of lights

For real, never put in a bigger fuse than what it's rated for.
You obviously have a short-to-ground somewhere.

Good luck finding it.

Re: gauge lights shut off

Do the low beams still work? Or is it just the interior lights that stop working?
