Fitting a 2-DIN radio in a 95 auto
Fitting a 2-DIN radio in a 95 auto
Like the title says, I'm going to find a way to put a 2 DIN Nav/radio setup in my Z28. Has anyone done this? Rather than put it in the factory 1.5 DIN location, I'd like to put it down below where the cigarette lighter and storage pocket are. I'd go measure it myself, but I'm in Iraq and the car's in Cali. The wiring is no problem(I used to do basic stereo installs, but I was a salesman). I just have minimal fabrication skills. Any ideas, suggestions, etc....
Also, I was wondering if anyone else has any pics/experiences with the "stealth boxes" for subwoofers that fit inside the space in the drivers side storage well. I'm not willing to give up my t-top storage for a sub enclosure. Recommendations?
The radio in question is an Eclipse AVN6600

Re: Fitting a 2-DIN radio in a 95 auto
It has been done before, in a variety of ways. There's a guy on this board, meissenation, who has a double-DIN in the dash of his '94. This is how he did it...

This should be in the Car Audio & Electronics forum, so a mod will probably move it there for you.

Slapping a double-din unit in the dash isn't going to be easy. If you have minor fab. skills, it should be a little weekend projecct for you. I plan on doing a carputerr setup much like above, but retaining the 93-96 console, rather than swapping up to the 97+. I would suggest using the CD storage area on the console and making a nice little wooden housing and then touchup with fiberglass.

My bad on the wrong section, it's my first day
I think the storage pocket would be the easiest, but the concern I have is the gear shift being in the way of the screen in certain gears. While I'm sure it'd only really be an issue in P/R, it'd drive me insane knowing it's like that. I'd like to do something like opening the stock radio location a little bit with a dremel, then a little bit of fiberglass to smooth everything out, but I can't remember how much room there is to work with in there. Like I said, the car's on the other side of the world from me right now. Is there enough dead-space in there to cut away to fit the chassis of the radio in there? Last time I was in there I didn't pay too much attention because I was too angry about having to rewire the hack-job stereo installation that the previous owner did.
