Factory Speaker Sizes

Okay, yes i have searched and read through some threads...

Now I have an '01 Camaro. The door and b-pillar speakers both, from the factory, are 5.25". I understand that 6.5 or 6.75 can go in the doors, with a custom bracket. No biggie....

What I dont get is, how do you figure the rears are 6.75 also? Are you guys making a bracket to drop in larger rears as well? I have just glanced so far, so I am not really sure on clearances. But to me, it looks like it may be a bit of work to fit 6.75's in the rear. The door, maybe. The rears????

Also, I have read in some places the rear speakers are dual voice coil subs, but other places I have read different. Either way, I believe they are to act as sub and mid bass, so a coaxial is a waste to put in back there.

For the fronts I am thinking of going with Infinity 6002si, because they have a good sensitivity of 92db, and they are no to expensive. Being the stockers are 2ohms, and aftermarkets will be 4ohms, I believe a good sens rating is required for decent volume.

Anyway, can anyone clarify some of the above info?

By the way, some pics...

Here is the rear side panel (b-pillar) Speakers.

Here is the front door, with OEM bracket still in place.

lol brackets? mine came glued to the mesh

I have the monsoon and they look like 6.75s to me, both in the pillars and the rear. Don't take that as gospel though...

Re: Factory Speaker Sizes

The woofers in the POS Monsoon system are all oversized 6.5" speakers. Also called 6.5"S and 6.75"

The rear seat speakers are the factory subwoofers. (HAHAHA yeah, right). Firebirds have subs with dual 4ohm voice coils ran in parallel for a 2ohm load. Camaros have subs with single 2ohm voice coils.

I would recommend looking for different speakers than the Infinity speakers. I had a set and got rid of them after I heard how badly they distorted at high listening levels.

Re: Factory Speaker Sizes

Well I got a great deal on some Polks, so I got two sets of 6.5's... I've done my share of fabrication, years ago anyways... So I will make them fit one way or the other...

Thanks for the info guys... I may even dig up my old SoundStream amps amd put them back in service...
