Factory CD player

I just bought a factory CD player for my Firebird. I installed it in place of the factory cassette. One problem, when I adjust the volume sometimes it jumps to deafening levels with only turning the **** one notch. Other times it works normal. It does the same when turning it down. My question is this, Are the circuit boards too sensitive for me to try switching the volume control from my cassette to the CD player without ruining either one? I have basic soldering skills, although I haven't done any in awhile. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

Whats more important than your soldering skills is your un-soldering skills. If you don't do it right you can damage the trace on the circuit board and then you're really screwed. And if theres suface mount components used that makes things even more difficult.

Can you return this HU? Thats what I would do.

I can return it, but I think I'm going to get an estimate on the repair first. Thanks for the input.
