Help me pick an amp

Help me pick an amp
I bought an Alpine Type-S 10" sub. Sing voice coil, 200W RMS/600 peak, 4 ohm, frequency response of 30Hz - 2kHz.
This is my only sub that will be in my car and this is the only amp I will have for my system right now. So what amp do I get and point me towards a store to get it at.

When talking brands...most people stick to brands like fords and chevys! This last time when I purchased an amp...I went outside my normalcy and got a Rockford Fosgate 300 series. It's a great amp. Didn't cost an arm and a leg...VERY stable, and they're underated from the factory. Meaning, they put out a good bit more than they say they will. I was so please with it, I bought another 300 series to power the mids and highs. Good quality stuff.

the output voltage of the head unit and the input voltage of the amp are usually matched, but if the amp is too powerful, then you can just cut its input voltage. If it is set to recieve a more powerful signal and it doesn't get what it is expecting, then it will not put out its rated power.... only enough to satisfy the speaker.
In other words, turn the gain down on the amp.

The type-s should handle 400W fine as long as the amp isn't driven to clipping. I installed a system consisting of 2 12" type's subs getting 500W RMS each and there hasn't been a problem yet. The system has been in the car for about 8 months now. I just set the gains to a 1:1 clip ratio (no clipping) with an o-scope.
So, I second rthompson's recommendation of an Avionixx 400.2. Just make sure the gains are properly set and you shouldn't have a problem.

As a 17 year old i know quite a bit about amps and subs and what not. Personally JBL doesnt make very good amps but they make ok amps. A good brand that is just coming out from not having much is audiobahn. Check out www.thezeb.com for CHEAP PRICES!

JBL make great amps for the money, there's much better out there (with much more features) but when it comes to bang for your buck JBL is up there.
BTW, their new amps are suppose to be pretty good, I believe they're now partnering with Crown.
What does your age have to do with anything?

Age actually might have a lot to do with it in some cases. At my age and in my town thats all it is is subs and amps. Thats all im around and i am around a variety of different products. So thats why i said i was 17. What is JBL's new line called? I would still stick with a audiobahn or a fosgate but if your pusing the one sub you may want to just match your one sub with a alpine amp.

Want serious power, durability and longevity. Get a MTX amp! I have 2 of them I got 8 years ago and they have never ever failed and are oh so powerful! Careful they are very under rate to say the least. My Thunder 2160 is only rated at 80 watts and bangs out a clean 425 watts RMS. Be sure to get a quality name brand unit and remember you get what you pay for!
