factory cd changer
I have a 2000 Z28 and i have heard that they are pre wired for the factory changers, is this true? how difficult is it to put one in? do i have to take the head unit out to do anything to the back of it?
thanks
thanks
The changer's wiring harness is part of the wiring that goes to the speaker in the hatch area on the driver's side. It should be a small plug wrapped in foam rubber. Look inside the cubby hole under the carpeting.
You could always use a P.I.E. digital protocol adapter to connect a Kenwood changer to the factory wiring harness.
The GM9/PC-KNW plugs into the back of the HU
The GM10/PC-KNW, which I used to use, plugs into the wiring harness back where the changer mounts.

thank you very much for your help, hopefully this will be my last questions for you. where can i order one of the adapters you mentioned above? from the web site, it looks like you have to buy it from a dealer, and i live in a small town in nebraska.
i looked in my car to see the wiring, and i was wondering where is the best place to mount it, drill into the metal, or can you use the little plastic shelf that hangs behind the wheel well?
this is off the topic, but what is that plastic piece down if the fender? it looks like it is some sort of vent so air pressure doesnt build up in the back of the car... is that what it is?

When I had mine I got lucky and found it on eBay. A guy there had several of them for sale and I got mine for $30. I don't know how much they retail for. I believe www.crutchfield.com might carry them. If not, write to PIE and ask.
I had originally installed my changer in the cubby hole on the driver's side to the left of the T-top holder. I've since moved my changer to the other side of the car since a Stealthbox now resides on the driver's side. I just shot screws into the sheet metal. When I moved the changer I sealed the holes with silicone.
I have no idea what that platic piece is that you mentioned.
