I've seen one double DIN in a Camaro and it looked like total ***. It was SO obvious that it didn't fit right.

i realize they are not double din, that is why i am not sure that i wanted to take on the project.

ls1 rulz - did it look like it could be done right if someone put the time into it, or will it probably always look like ***?

I don't think there's enough room to make it look anywhere near stock. Certainly not good enough for my tastes anyway. A double DIN HU just doesn't look right in an F-Body. Not unless you're able to do some serious custom fabrication to make it look good.
