Distortion Thru Sub

I have been installing a Kicker IX702 and Pioneer 10" in my 69 RS this weekend and have run into a distortion and bumping sound coming thru the amp even with the stereo turned all the way down. I have tried the system dummied up, with all the wires run outside the car without all these problems. Now that I have it run in the car I have run into this problem. I have 8gauge power wire run all the way from the battery to the amp with an inline-fuse. I think the ground is a 10gauge. Could this be the problem?

All help is appreciated.

Thanks

More details are needed about the rest of your setup. Where are all the wires and cables being run? RCA cables should be kept away from the power cable.

If your ground wire is short it should be OK. Even so, I would recommend upgrading it to 8awg. Although I seriously doubt that this is the cause of your noise problem.

This is a chart you can use to determine the length and size of power cable you need.

Thanks for the help. I thought the problem was as you stated about the rca's running next to the power lines, but I came home and completely run a new set of rca's outside of the vehicle. Still sounds like popcorn. I also tried a 4 gauge ground cable without any change. I am again at a loss. All help is appreciated.

Thanks

Is the noise only present with the engine running or is it there all the time? If it's there all the time there may be a problem with the amp.
