distance of crossovers from components? Help!

I recently got a set of mb quart refrence components. the cross overs seem too big to stuff under the kick panels does it matter if i mount them under the hatch plastics? or should they be as close to the tweet and sub as possible?

I've mounted them in many different places, and distance never seemed to matter. Infact in most cars, I mount the crossovers in the trunk and run the speaker wires to the front from there.
