Question Delco CD Changer

Hey,

I was wondering what you guys thought of the 12 Disc changer from Delco. I did a search and found a bit of info... Where does it mount in a 97 Z? Does it work with the CD HU? Anything to look for when purchasing one used?

Thanks for the help....

I'm VERY happy with my stock Delco changer...it's actually made by Pioneer. Stock, they're mounted on the "shelf" in the trunk on the driver side. Yes, your car is pre-wired for the changer. However, the stock CD HU's weren't able to control the stock changers until mid '99. The '97-up cassette players can control the changer, so you can either upgrade to a mid '99-up Monsoon CD player, or change over to a '97-up Monsoon cassette HU.

I moved my changer to the passenger side to install a sub in a stealthbox, so check out the link in my sig for my install pics.

Hey,

Thanks for the info. I was looking at a changer on EBay, and I wanted to be sure it would work and perferably without havingto modify anything since it would be going into my 30th Anniversary car. It would be a real shame to have to cut or change anything since they were so few made... I have a Pioneer unit that I bought with the GM Factory replacemnt deck that Pioneer sells. It's dina nd a half I believe, I wonder if that would work with the factory CD unit...

Nice car you have there, black is always beautiful, especially with a nice tint job.

How nice is that Stealth box? I checked with a dealer up here and they wanted like $800 CDN about $500 us. Is it worth the money? Is there any cutting required in the trim panel?

Thanks for your help, much appreciated

I have no personal experience with the Pioneer HU controlling the stock Delco changer...however, I think I've seen it posted that they won't work together...but don't hold me to that.

I actually have the JL Vantage box, which is an unloaded, uncarpeted, stealth box. The retail on just the box is around $160 US. I carpeted mine myself and then bought my sub separately. If you buy the Vantage box and then buy a JL 10W3 sub to go in it, you'll save about $100 US over buying the actual loaded JL Stealthbox. No cutting is required to mount the stealthbox. I'm VERY happy with the bass in my system!
