Arrow Couple ?'s about speaker options....

I've been looking around for a while and it seems like the more I read, the more confused I get. Okay... I have an aftermarket Alpine HU and both of my front speakers are blown. I'm not sure as to what to get. There are so many choices. What do I need? I know they are 6.5" but do I want 2-way, 3-way,etc? And if I get one of those will my stock tweeters still work? Would a component speaker set for the front be better? They are listed as "woofers" and "tweeters." I know the ones in the back seat are considered "woofers." What's the difference? And one last question.... After the installation of the HU the monsoon amp is still powering the speakers right? And I do have a sub in the cubby if that makes a difference as to what speakers I should get.

I have a 97 Trans Am.

If I were to get replacement "subs" for the back seat, what would you guys recommend?

One question...have you read the sticky at the top of the forum page? It actually explains the system, and give you an upgrade option that some have done and have good recommendations for it.

What are you talking about? I don't see that in this forum.

Re: Couple ?'s about speaker options....

A good set of 2-way components is all you need. Three and 4-way speakers are a waste of money. All your are doing is buying a mid-woofer with multiple tweeters. The mid-woofer and and a single tweeter are all you need to cover the audible bandwidth. Don't bother with trying to keep the factory tweeters.

The rear seat speakers are factory sub-woofers (HAHAHA yeah right, subwoofers...what a joke). You'll get much better performance from a single 10" or 12" sub-woofer. Click the link to my car's setup below. It's a simple 4 speaker setup (2 in the doors and 2 10" subs). I don't believe in using rear speakers unless you have a true surround sound setup. And I don't buy into the argument that the passengers in back need to have speakers to listen to. Having a speaker blasting into your shoulder isn't my idea of enjoyable listening. I don't have any rear speakers in my car (except for the subs) yet I always have people asking me what kind of speakers I have in back. I've even had to pop off the grills just to prove it to some of them. When I do they can't believe how good the sound is without having rear speakers.

Do not use the POS Monsoon amp. It is nothing more than a distortion producing, speaker blowing power booster. It is NOT a true power amp.

Sorry. Someone has moved it away. It used to be at the top of the forum.

Re: Couple ?'s about speaker options....

I bought this set of Infinity component speakers.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...743633589&rd=1

How do you think these will sound?
Should I mount the tweeter in the stock tweeter location? If not, how should I mount it?

Thanks

If those are the Infinity Reference Series components they will sound like crap when you crank them up. Thats why I got rid of the pair I had.

Re: Couple ?'s about speaker options....

I read a couple of reviews on them and they were saying pretty good things about them. I won't have an aftermarket amp powering them so I won't have tons of power running to them.

Can I mount the tweeters in the original place?

Re: Couple ?'s about speaker options....

I was only running 75W to them high passed at 80Hz @ 18dB/octave and the midwoofers distorted badly on loud bass hits. Thats pretty **** poor performance IMO. I switched to Boston Acoustics Rally components and haven't had any problems since.

The tweets mounted just fine in the factory locations in my '99 TA
