Couple of HU questions

Hi all-
First, I have the Bose AM/FM/CD that cam from the factory in my car still, and its been having problems lately. Aside from skipping every now and then (which I hear is common), the HU will occaisonally shut off entirely. The display goes off, the clock goes off, and nothing I do can make it turn back on (I've restarted the car, turned the radio on/off, etc.). It just turns back on by itself 10-30 seconds later. This doesn't seem to be related to road conditions, since its done it while the car was sitting still at a stoplight several times. I pulled the HU today, and didn't see any loose wires or any of that sort of thing. Anyone had this problem before?

My other question is really stupid, and I feel like an idiot for even having to ask. When I was reassembling the dash after replacing the HU, I could not get the trim panel that fits over the HU to fit on correctly. There's a clip-looking thing sticking down from the trim panel directly above it, just to the left of the fan speed ****, that I think is causing the trim panel to not sit down all the way. There's now a little gap between the stereo trim panel and the trim panel running under the HVAC controls, and when the dash lights are on at night, I can see light through the gap. What am I doing wrong here?

Sorry for the long post, thanks in advance!

The factory HU has proven time and again that it is NOT a reliable unit and it will continue to F-up as long as you have it. You can either get used to it or replace it all with a quality after-market setup.

Check to make sure that you have the HU seated back in the dash all the way.

Thanks for the info, I finally got the dash fixed today. And it looks like I'll probably just buy a new HU and speakers sometime soon. Once again, thanks man!

P.S. Sorry for the late reply, I just today got around to looking at the dash again.

does it go off when you press on the brake or use any other type of accessory, or just at random? if it is just at random, i would assume the unit is a piece of crap.

Yeah it's pretty much at random. I'm not too concerned about it anymore though, as like I said, I'll probably be getting a new unit sometime soon.
