My stock '98 SS has the std AMFM Cassette radio. Last week the radio started having a problem that appears interior heat related. In the morning, the radio seems fine, in the afternoon (baking in the sun all day) it's static all the way home. Whats up with that?

Is it something easy (cheap) to fix or should I be on the lookout for another radio?

those symptoms usually are the first signs of the BCM going bad.

 

The same thing was happening in my girlfriends old car although it was an aftermarket hu. I replaced the hu and the problem stopped. Usually when radios get old they cannot dissapate (spell) heat as well
