Question Converting to factory option 12 disc changer.

I've been looking around and figured you guys would know as well as anyone.

Anyway, my 2000 Formy came factory with the single CD monsoon system. I would like to change it over to the optional 12 disc changer, I would like to stay with factory GM stuff. What all do I need to buy and where is the best place to get it from? Should I be able to do the install myself, or get it professionally done? I know I could go to a full aftermarket 12 disc changer, but I kinda like the idea of staying GM with the stereo. If I have to go aftermarket, what would you guys recommend? Again, I'd like to stay stock, but I hate having to change CDs while I'm driving, and any time I ask my lady friend to change the disc she puts in one of her Beck CDs

Any help will be much appreciated.

You can get a factory replacement changer on ebay for a few hundred bucks. You need to look and see if you have the cable aready there from the radio. If not, you will have to find one, post here in the parts wanted section. If you go with an aftermarket changer, you will need to get an aftermarket headunit. Or get a changer with an FM modulator.

Where would I look for the wires? Under the back mat?

And if I do have the cables (I'll look tomorrow, effin rain...) is this all I need?

I believe they should be in the cuby hole in the trunk area.

You need to e-mail that seller and see what years that changer works with, as he does not state in his auction.

The cable is behind the plastic cover in the hatch area on drivers side.

Ok, I got to looking and I do have the wires back there already. I emailed the guy with the Ebay auction and he said it came out of a '95. '95 what? I dunno, he didn't say. But The plugs look the same as the ones in my car. Any ideas if a 95 changer will work with a 2000 head unit?

Again, thanks for all the help.

I think it should work, but, personally, I would wait until I'd find a newer one. Just to be sure.

That is true as that one might need to be cleaned out and the shock absorbers might be worn out.
