Convertibles and Subs in the trunk...

What kind of sound do you get with a convertible? Would one good 12 do? Im buying a concept 12in and a 500watt (concept) amp, its on layaway so i dont have it yet. Im also getting a custom ported sub box.

Just wondering what kind of system some of you have in a vert and how good it sounds.

Re: Convertibles and Subs in the trunk...

if you only have 1 12 with 500 watts it would sound like the equivalent of maybe an 8" sub with 100 watts when you have the top down. I'm dead serious....it's a problem with the 4th gen convertibles.....when you have the top down, the bass just gets eaten up.....the sound has no way to escape the trunk. With the top up the bass is awesome though, because the trunk is not blocked off (and it has a more acceptable resonant frequency for the car with the top up). My single 10" sub with 400watts sounds okay with the top down though. It's not BUMPING....but you definitely can still hear the bass.

Ive got 2 10" Pioneer IMPP's, and a 300 watt Phoenix Gold amp. My system pounds with the top up, but as soon as the top goes down, the booms go away
