Completely STUMPED!
Completely STUMPED!
wowwww,
alright well my amp hasn't been working for the last couple days....and the power light turns on with the cd player and the ground is good. All the wiring has been triple checked. So I was just about to assume the amp was dead.
THEN
My buddy came over today and we hooked up his amp to my car.....and my sub played beautifuly. Then we hooked up MY amp to HIS car.....and it PLAYED!!!! So then I assumed it would work in mine, so we put it back in, and sure enough it doesn't.......WTF!!!!!!!!!! That makes absolutely no sense.
One thing I noticed though is that when we put my amp in his car, the red light came on a lot brighter than when I had it in mine. He has the exact same wiring kit as me, and the same wattage amp (400).
So anyone have any ideas? Otherwise I'm gona jus call Ripley. lol :-/

Re: Completely STUMPED!
Could be many things, try using a volt meter to check and make sure your getting the correct voltage. Some amps need xx.x amount or they shut off. Another thing is did you use the same remote wire for his amp or did you just jump it with 12 volts?
Re: Completely STUMPED!
thanks for the reply,
Haven't been able to get ahold of a volt meter yet...so I'm lookin for more obvious solutions. But yeah, I used the exact same wires on my amp, and for his. Same remote and everything. This is so confusing ahhhhh

Re: Completely STUMPED!
Try taking a small bit of wire from the + to the remote if it works the remote is at fault
Also check the rca if they are a bit tarnished then it would not carry the signal the amp would be on bout would not play music.

Re: Completely STUMPED!
alright guys
well today I went to best buy, and I had the guy in the car audio garage hook my amp upto the bench tester thing. He said it works perfectly fine. There's nothing wrong with it.
So when I got back, I had the same buddy come over and we hooked up my amp and sub to his car. It worked fine. Then to mine, nothing at all. We noticed that when we hooked it upto his car, the red power light was SOOOO much brighter than when we hooked it upto mine. When we hooked it upto mine, it was very dim.
So I got the volt-meter out.
With the amp in my car and turned on, the Batt slot on the amp read 12V. The Remote read 2V. This confused me because I didn't think that should be so low.
Okay so we put my amp in HIS car and tested it. The Batt was 12V and the Remote was 10V.
So after this, I thought okay well my remote wire must be f'd up. So I replaced it with a thicker guage speaker wire and it's the same problem. I have it hooked up to my blue antenna wire.
I tested the voltage at the blue antenna wire by itself and it was about 8V. With the amp remote wire connected it read 2V.
hmmmmm what do you guys think?
ps- my ground is sanded completely clean now

Re: Completely STUMPED!
Pull the HU and measure the remote voltage where it comes out of the HU. If you still have a low voltage reading you have a problem with your HU. If it measures OK then you have a problem with your wiring somewhere.
Re: Completely STUMPED!
well it seems that either the wire is bad or the output of the radio is bad. You can check with a volt meter or run a test wire outside the car from the radip turn on to the amp remote and if that works then its just the wire. if not then you need to find a new switched 12volt source or use a relay to turn the amp on. I would just wire it up to the 12volt switched wire from the radip that only gets power when the ignition is on. Either way check to see if its the radip or the wiring.....
