Which CD Player?
I should be picking up a CD player pretty soon at Best Buy since both my JVC's died on me.
I don't really feel like putting money into a sh*tty headunit, especially after my JVC's (a product I will not buy).
Which of the above would you select and why?
Also, which is better, XM Radio or Sirius?

I used to buy retail, but let me tell you, Ebay rules. I just got a new $600 Alpine for $$400. You can get a nice Alpine for two hundred and something...new. If I had to choose from your list, sony, but Alpine would be my top choice and then probably Eclipse.
Hey lil bro,
ask yourself, in this day and age, how in the hell can you NOT get a CD player without MP3 capabilities?!?!? I didn't reasearch your choices but that's what I would get. I got a JVC MP3 player
and I love it. Stoney, on the other hand, is the DEVIL'S BRAND

Wha? No ALPINE????
Sony may be complete crap... BUT... SO IS PIONEER.
1. You absolutely must have mp3 capabilities - 1 mp3 disk is equivalent to 10 yes TEN regular CDs. Thats like having a ten disk changer in your dash.
2. If you want a quality unit that won't break down buy ALPINE. Pioneer isn't any better than JVC, in fact I've heard really good things about JVC's mp3 players. Pioneer on the other hand.... all they are is flashy. If you want about a million stupid screen savers and a flashy display then buy a pioneer. If you actually want your HU to produce quality sound then buy ALPINE. Kenwood is nice but $$$ and over engineered. Too many buttons, hard to operate, and the display always looks cluttered and over the top instead of sleek and functional (read: ALPINE).
If you want a great HU at a decent price and one that looks pretty neat to boot check out ALPINE's CDA-7897 CD/MP3 PLAYER. $410 on ebay right now

If that's a little too much HU for your purposes then check out www.crutchfield.com. Alpine makes about a million different models, some are expensive and some are inexpensive but all are worth every penny you'll spend IMO and one will be just what you need.
www.ikesound.com also has really great prices on sound system componets. Check them out as well.
Hope this helps

You can get a VERY good Alpine for under $250. Get one that has the Bass Engine Plus feature. This will give you 4-channel time correction..... priceless. Can't stress that enough. It really a great feature. Should make up for playing all those MP3 files......lol... but seriously, CD's have gotten worse and worse as far as SQ goes. The tracks are compressed. Now take 10 of those CDs and compress them into 1...... yep... worse yet. It's not a HUGE difference, but big enough for me. Will you be able to tell a difference with poor speaker placement of a vehicle, road noise and middle quality equipment? Probably not. Never the less, the difference is there. Anyhow..... that's a different topic..... go for the Alpine!
My top 3 brands
#1 Kenwood well known for the ease of use, and reliability, 3 kenwoods over the last 10 years and none have let me down.
#2 Clarion The most visually appealing and have fixed most of the reliability problems they used to have.
#3 Alpine, rock solid, but kind of expensive for what you get.... would have been my #2 but they are just plain ugly.

I had a pioneer 6000 for 3 years before it was stolen. Great CD player with no problems. I have a premier 740 now and it's another great CD player.
Sound quality on both is very good. With pioneer you get a lot for what you pay for. $230(ebay) shipped to me, high and low pass filters, and 3 sets of 4 volt RCA's, and decent built-in equalizer settings...plus mp3's
Before the 6000 I had a sony, it was so worthless I had to return it.

Top 2 for me... probably the ONLY ones that I will ever own
Alpine
Eclipse
Both of which are top dogs when it comes to HUs. Plain and simple, hands down.
I got my Alpine that's in my Bird for $300 off Ebay, MP3, plus all the other goodies.
Alpine's have a great track record with me. I've owned about a dozen of them either directly, or indirectly (Direct family members) and not one I've ever had issues with. Actually the first one that I ever bought still works great and is in my winter car as wee speek, I listen to it everyday.
I've owned Sony's and had issues, my GFs JVC was crappy, the Jensen's I've dealt with are crap (although what do you expect?), Kenwood has a decent product, and Clarion as well.
